Astra Tech is pleased to announce a new nursing award, established in honour of Professor Clare Fowler and her esteemed contributions to Uro-Neurology as a clinical specialisation. Her work and research have forged new considerations and implemented change to patient care; most notably to those with severe detrusor overactivity, bladder dysfunction in the context of advanced neurological diseases and urinary retention in young women (Fowler’s Syndrome).
Professor Fowler will be retiring in 2010 and this award seeks to recognise and celebrate her eminent career.
The Award
The Clare Fowler Award is granted for innovative practice, clinical work or initiatives which have, or have the potential, to influence and improve urology, uro-gynae or continence management in relation to bladder function within primary and secondary care.
The Clare Fowler Award will take place annually and the successful applicant(s) will receive £2,000
Criteria
- Individuals or teams may apply
- It will be awarded for current, completed or ongoing innovative practice, clinical work or initiatives that make a positive contribution towards urology or continence care
- An official application form must be completed and supporting documentation supplied if applicable
- Maximum word count of 1,000 words
- The winner(s) should be prepared to publish or present the awarded work through relevant media, publications or forum groups
- The winner(s) will be announced on the Astra Tech UK website

The Judging Panel
The judging panel will include Clare Fowler, three nominated members from the National Intermittent Catheterisation Professional Group (NICPG), with representatives from the Select patient forum and Astra Tech Ltd.
